subaru 555?

ok couple questions, can anyone tell me what the 555 was for on the
older subaru rally cars? and also remember back in '93 when subaru
had collin mcrae driving a legacy in the wrc? well what all did they
have to do to that car to prepare it for a rally? just wondering if
it was "rally ready" from the factory as the new wrx are. well not
completely "rally ready" but i'm talking for the most part, engine
wise and what not.
