A Subaru will start with a bad wire in the cam sensor

Post by n2x4 »

Just sharing something I found out - your car will start and run with a partially wired in cam sensor!

The sensor is three wires: + - and shield. One of my wires was disconnected at the car harness, and the car started no problem but ran like poo with a code for the cam sensor. I thought to myself, "if the sensor was bad - this thing wouldn't start!" So I checked the wires and there was my problem

Just wanted to pass the info on, not sure at this point which wire it was (I'm guessing shield) but if I find out I'll post.

The shield probably wouldn't cause it to run like poo. It was probably one of the + or -. But if you find ou which wire it was, let us know.
