Engine Differences

Post by Barrett, Sam »

I'm reeeeaaally enjoying the current discussion on this topic. Kudos to all who have contributed!

Question: What is the difference betweent the EJ20G, EJ20T (I ASSume this means turbo), and the EJ20-RA?

I don't want to side-track Pete's contribution, however so I re-named the post.

The RA is a closed deck block, well known for it's "bulletproof"
design and it compares very well with the EJ22T from the US Turbos.

The EJ20G MIGHT be the standard 2.0 turbo and the EJ20T could be a
version before or after, since they changed a lot of their engine
specs in 93-94.

I should really check my facts but I believe the EJ20 turbo goes like this.... remembering that there is also a non turbo EJ20.

89-93 EJ20G - sand cast, hydraulic lifters
93-96 EJ20H - die cast, hydralulic lifters
96-00 EJ20R - die cast, sold lifters

All of the above have many other internal and external differences such as pistons, lifters, cams, valves, etc. This is where it really gets complicated. eg. my 97 GTB has an engine code EJ20RDWCJE

Never heard of a EJ20T, nor an EJ20-RA. The Legacy RS-type RA will use a variant on the EJ20G (forged pistons, etc)

what are the engine differences between a turbo legacy
and a N/A? basically, is a turbo a N/A with a
different manifolds, exhaust and running on prem gas?
or are there major internal modifications, ie
compression ratio change?<<<<

Scott, Yes, there are differences, quite large ones. Please feel free to
read through the archives (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BC-BFLegacyWorks/),
just about all the information on this topic has been covered.
