For those looking at ARP Head Studs

Post by IronMonkeyL255 »

The correct kit for our vehicles using SOHC heads is 260-4702.

I am in the process of talking to them right now regarding my recent misfortunes, and i am planning on getting them to change their listing to make this fact more apparent.

I repeat, 260-4701 is ONLY correct if you are using DOHC heads. if you are still using stock heads, 260-4702 is the correct kit for you.

Now i am fighting with ARP because "We have sold thousands of these kits, so the listing is right".

The way they have that listed is fucking stupid, and the man at ARP was effectively calling me stupid for ordering the wrong one.

I looked over the catalog with Dale Teague from Boxer4Racing, and he agreed, that the 4701 kit appeared to be the correct listing for my engine.

Kind of like how all the places I've seen H&R springs it says they fit all legacy's from 90-98 or something which is not true. Even the 90-91 and 92-94 springs are different in the rears.

At least you didn't actually use the DOHC ones. I did, and 20k miles later the threads in the block let go.

The 14mm studs are for hardcore motors. The block must be torn down to machine for them, and the holes in the heads must be enlarged.

I DID use them, and as I was torquing them down, one of them let go.

I am talking with a guy in management about having them change their listing in the catalog.

Does ARP make the bolts to join the 2 block halves together? I would assume someone does.
