Hi all, not sure if this is correct area for my post, please feel free to move it, but I wondered if anyone out there in Suby-land knew at what temperature the 'warm up cycle' ceased on an EJ22. My engine only gets to 80-82 degrees C max and I am wondering if the fuel mix is too rich by virtue of the ECU still trying to get the engine up to nominal operating temp (91 degree C). In the 92 legacy manual online it shows a curve which is injector duty cycle percentage increase against engine temp that runs out at 60 degree C, but I don't take that as gospel as it's not detailed enough. Any comments?
Tristan.

Your engine should be getting to around 95 deg C before the fans kick on.
First question I have, are the fans running all the time?
Next, I'd recommend replacing the thermostat and the engine coolant temp sensor. Make sure to use a Subaru thermostat. Aftermarket thermostats will cause issues. The engine temp sensor is the brown connector two wire sensor in the engine coolant crossover pipe.
If your fans are not running all the time, those two things should help.
One thing to note is that when the HVAC system is set to defrost, the AC system will run, which also runs the fans.

Thanks for the reply Josh.
I just reread my post which wasn't worded very well, what I meant to say is this is the temperature the engine runs at (the engine is in a kombi which has a much more efficient cooling setup than the Suby) and as a result it never gets to 91. My fans kick in at 95. The genuine thermostat starts to open at 78 and is fully open at 91 but like I said because my system is more efficient (I know it's not necessarily a good thing) the engine only gets to about 82 (ish) which would have the thermotat about half open by my reckoning. Now apart from it not being the absolute optimum temp for the engine (oil viscosity etc) I'm not really worried unless this means I am still in the temperature band which causes a richening of the air/fuel mix.

If memory serves me correct, the coldest I see mine running with the fans running constantly due to AC is around 87 deg C.
I'd have to look at the manuals to see if there is still warm up enrichment at 82, but I would probably try and get those temps up to around 87 - 90 deg C.
How is your cooling system setup? Can you divert flow from the cooler with a 3-way bypass valve of some sorts to help modulate the flow through the cooler to keep your normal operating temp more in line.
That's about the easiest and probably least costly thing I can think of.
