WATER PUMP QUESTIONS

Post by CAV3MAN227 »

I'm new here and i just purchased a 92 t-leg and im doing the water pump on it. It has the ej22 motor with the vf11 turbo. I got as far as getting the center crank pulley off and the 3 timing covers. i know i have to take the timing belt off so what is my next step? i believe its the tensioner but where do i start? any help or links to how to's is appreciated! thanx! (passenger side line up looks like it might be off by a tooth but the car runs fine)

Take off that pulley to the right of the crank sprocket. Remove belt. Remove tensioner. Remove pump. Put on new pump. compress tensioner slowly, put a pin in it, and reinstall. put belt on. Buy a manual with the money you saved doing this yourself :p

I've gotten to the point of putting the timing belt back on but the cam gears don't want to match up with the crank sprocket. Need help please!

What do you mean match up? If the marks on the belt match the marks on the sprocket and cams then you are good. Make sure the belt isnt flipped though.

ok, those don't matter as much as getting the marks on the belt and pulleys correct. The distance from the passenger side pulley mark to the crank mark needs to be 44 teeth. And from crank to driver pulley mark, 40.5 teeth. The plastic timing cover marks are just there to help installation.

I don't know if I had posts about the apexi, but search my history to be sure.

Are you on stock turbo and stuff?

I would set the boost to .7 to start to make sure you don't hit fuel cut, which feels like shit.

I have mine set up very simple. No learn gear, same boost in each gear, no start duty. But I have a vf39 at 1 bar. I remember when I had my vf11 still on I tapered the boost down before redline, I only ran about 12psi, or whatever I found was just below fuelcut at my elevation.

do u think it would be a good idea to reset all the values and start fresh on the avcr? (i really have to learn how to use this thing or find someone who does lol)

Yeah, and restart simple. Then add all the cool shit once you have basics down. Helped me a lot doing it that way.

so resetting all the values and stuff will not mess up anything? like as if u just got done hooking it all up and u turn ur car on for the first time, the car should run correct? (sorry for all the Q's, this is all new to me)

If you reset, it resets all the sensor setting too I believe. So before you reset make a note of the sensor types and stuff in the "etc" menu. But yeah it will start up and run just fine.

car runs good now on low boost, 7-8lbs, but on high boost, 14lbs, it tends to spike.
