Pulled Dash, What all can I eliminate??
I decided to pull the dash on our 91' Legacy to do some winter cleaning. The car was originally an automatic and converted to a manual. And now we are making a wanna-be race car out of it, so things that we done need must go! I only want the bare necessities in the car but I am not sure what is absolutely vital in these things for proper operation. The cruise control computer and harness can come out, all of the wiring for the automatic transmission I am assuming as well... Heater box will be split to take the evaporator out... Stereo wiring... Pretty much if its not connected to the ECU, I was planning on pulling it out.
Any input?

Yeah I was looking at that. Kinda a pain in the ass, but very doable to cut it open and take out what you want. There is just so much junk in this thing that it drives me crazy. I want it out!

You down with OCD? Yeah, you know me!
Sounds like a lot of work for the weight reduction of a good shit.

Thank you for the usless information that you just provided this thread. If I had a penny for every time someone has said this I would be rich. I have pulled so many things out of this car that is a "waste of time" to most that it adds up to 100lbs. A pound here and a pound there add up and add up quick. It's a race car, you want it to eliminate as much crap as possible to make the thing lighter. It's FREE HORSEPOWER!

And you're still starting with an inherently heavy car and have reached the point of highly diminishing returns with excessive time required for a tiny percentage of weight savings. It was a joke. What kind of response you expected as the laborious process is pretty self evident, I don't know. Have fun.

I am just tired of people telling me that its not worth it. It may not be worth it to you or your friends, but its worth it to me. I want to get this thing as light as I can because I can. We have already shed around 400lbs off of this thing and still have more to go! That is a crap load of weight! My time is free, and I am spending it doing something I love to do and thats modifying cars. We will be adding some weight back to the car by the way of chassis stiffeners. The more I get out now the better in my eyes.

As mentioned the wiring harness is all in one bundle. You would have to pull the harness out, identify the extra wires and cut/pull them out and then re tape the loom back together to be reinstalled.
If you can find a MT car to get parts from, I'd suggest pulling its wiring harness to use.

This has been a fun project! This damn harness runs EVERYWHERE!!! Oh well, full car clean up! We have shed 25.5lbs off of this thing from useless crap!

And no, I do not think I could have taken a crap that shed a good 25lbs.
