Brake Dashboard Light

Post by legacy004 »

Hello,

I'm wondering if someone could help me with the following:

A few weeks ago the brake dash light started staying on after the
hand brake would be released first thing in the morning and then go
off about 2 hours later. Now it's on constantly. Being a canadian
model this also prevents the daytime running lights from coming on.
I have replaced the switch at the brake handle to no avail. While
doing this I checked the connection under the seat and found out
there is no power getting to the switch. Looking at the wiring
diagram this circuit seems to be shared with the brake fluid level
circuit. The fluid level is and has always been full.
I cannot seem to trace the red/blue wire further than the carpet
area. Where else can I look this problem?

Thanks in advance

thats the brake idiot light. it tells you that you
need to replace their brakes. Similarly, you should
change the gas if the gas light comes on.
sometimes in looking for a big problem, we miss the
simple solution :)

I had the same problem with my 93 Touring wagon. Turned out that the brake fluid was low enough that when cold the light came on but when warmed up the fluid expanded enough to shut the light off. I added fluid and fixed problem.

It is also a sign the brake pads are worn.....

I'd check the fluid level and also check to see if the parking brake cable is sticking.

Further investigation this afternoon.
I disconnected the wires at the bottom of the brake fluid reservoir
and tested the circuit there. As soon as the circuit tester touches
the "hot wire", the lights work normally (this idiot light goes out
and the daytime running lights go on), then return to this abnormal
state when it's not touching.
Now does this mean the fluid level sensor in the reservoir is shot?
