Check Engine Light Questions

Post by CAV3MAN227 »

I need to smog my car coming up here. the car is almost stock but the CEL is on cause of my speed-o cable, knock sensor and IAC. Is there a way I can bypass, turning off, the CEL light so it don't show?
Here in Denver, Co. apparently they will fail you automatically if your CEL light is on. I also heard throwing in a little E-85 could help too, is this true? Any links or advise is appreciated.

Well, is your IAC plugged in? Also you can try cleaning it. For the knock sensor code, replace the sensor will help with performance. Speedo cable just get one its cheap and you can replace it from under the dash just remove the lower cover and you can get your hand in there to direct it at the back of the speedometer.

Speedo cable is $20 or so at the dealer, knock sensor I am sure you can find one that doesn't set a code be careful with the wiring, IAC you can find a used one if neccessary. OR just remove the dash cluster to unplug the check engine light bulb.

You've done all those mods and dont know where the knock sensor is??

lol jk

The knock sensor (if you are looking in the engine bay from the front of the car... is underneath the throttle body just to the right of it between the bell housing and the coolant cross over pipe.

Yes the speedo cable is two parts if you have a 5mt.. The upper part which goes to the cluster and the lower part that is only about 5-6 inches long that connects into the tranny. Its usually the lower part that breaks... I've gone through two of them.
