how to get more? the high end lacks...

Post by speedmaxx »

so im looking to gain a little more out of the high end on my legacy. the low end is great and I pull from a dig with no prblem at all.

reason im looking to get more is because a got beat by a swaped 2.4l neon :( on the highway from a 40mph roll he owned me by like 2 car lengts right up till about 75-80mph then we let off. from a dig I took him off the line with no problem at all for all of first gear, then once he got second he began to pull past me.

Im just wondering what else I can do to help my car pull a little harder on the high end with out losing my low end punch.

now my car is a 2.2l auto so I dont want to dump a ton of money trying to make a na fast. so far, powerwise, I got a impreza intake, perrin lightened crank pully, grounding mod, a full motor tune up(plugs, wires, fuel filter, ext.) and a dynomax muffler. my exhaust will be getting redone very soon to a full 2.25 from the headers all the way back with a fresh high flow cat.
so what else can I do get that little edge? without going internal on my motor.

thanks

You could throw in some Delta cams. And replace the factory head gaskets w/ the thinner ones for a small bump in compression.

yes is a 2.2l na motor. how much are the delta cams going for? also can the cams be changed without pulling the motor?

also how much of a hp increase would they really give me?

so who makes a thinner head gasket for a 2.2?

Delta Cam says they do some subaru cams for about 90 bucks a piece, and they also say 8-10% HP Increase

I don't think you wil have to pull the motor to do cams BUT i think it would be alot easier to dis-assemble and re-assemble with the motor out and on a stand.

As far as head gaskets, i don't know if cometic gaskets are thinner (do some research) but they're highly recommended throughout the board

FYI, you will have to remove the engine in order to do cams. One cams comes out the front of the head, the other comes out the back. There's not enough room between the motor and the firewall to pull the cam and put the new one in.

Cams and headers are about the only easy option for NA.

okay so cams are out of the question. headers I can get my local exhaust shop to fab something up for me but is the hp increase worth it?

also, I found a wrx turbo and tmic for sale on the fourm, now if I did happen to pick them up what else would I need to turbo my car and run a low boost (3-6psi), from fourm seaching I have found my car will handle low boost with out the need for seperate engine manegment, just a simple boost controller. techniclly everything should bolt right up, right?

I know that I would need a down pipe, but what else? if someone could make me a little list that would be sweet.

You need a turbo crossmember because you need to run the exhaust. Otherwise yes that would work!

You don't have to run a turbo crossmemeber, but doing so will allow you to use a stock Up pipe.
