Things are slowly wrapping up... yadda yadda I know (the last of the parts for ceramic coating have been sent out, only have to send out my injectors and then's it's finishing putting it all together and wiring). But I'm starting to get to a point where I'm going to be doing my cabin instrumentation soon. I want a good oil pressure gauge. It has to be electronic, I don't want any oil penetrating the firewall.
So, opinions? Which brands are good and reliable? Which ones should I shy away from. I assume the standard fitting is 1/8" NPT? I have a second adapter for the oil gallery plug near the back of the block. Do any of them have a safety alarm feature incase my pressure drops too low?
I'm actually looking into a sensor to use as well, but will probably just use a sensor to tie into the Link. As for fitting, yeah 1/8 NPT seems pretty common.
Whatever you choose REMOTELY MOUNT THE SENDING UNIT. When attached directly to the block it will vibrate like mad at certain frequencies(rpm) causing inaccurate readings and eventually the sender to fail. If you watch one under a timing light you can see that its moving alot more than it should.
It looks like Autometer sells a remote kit. I'll be looking into that - thanks for the tip Ciper. It looks like they run about $100 for the kit . I'll look into making my own I guess...
Stupid questions here - what pressures do our engine typically run at? Also, what oil temperatures do our motors typically run at?
prosport is ok very a cheaper gauge, I have had my prosport electronic oil pressure gauge and it has died/malfunctioned 2 times in about 4 years. just a heads up.
The remote oil pressure thing is just a piece of high pressure hose with a male npt on one side and female on the other. If you dont get the remote sensor mount I had an idea for a cheap method. Get a large hose clamp (or many small ones daisy chained) and have it around the sensor and around a nearby object then tighten it. The sensor is too tall and heavy when mounted directly to the engine and it moves back and forth alot. Id be afraid it could eventually break apart from repetitive stress, though I have never seen it happen
I think with the taller DOHC manifold it'd fit. That said, I found on Jegs they have a 3' remote kit for $30.
Finally, one more question - will a 0-100 psi work or do I need a 0-150 psi? I know I've seen specs posted before but my searching hasn't turned up much yet.
I think a 0-100 psi would work. That's what I was looking at. The fsm says discharge pressure is 43 psi at 5,000 rpm. Relief valve operation is at 85 psi.
Can you post a link to that remote kit you found on JEGS.
Sorry Josh. I haven't been real good about getting back to people this week. Things have been a little crazy but that's a really weak excuse, sorry man.
While I have the motor apart I definitely want to add oil pressure & temp sensors to tie into the Link. I was even thinking about fuel pressure, but that may be overkill
