Any one transmission?

Post by Legacy Konig »

I have a '94 N/A FWD Legacy.

Many, many miles.

I have a N/A 2.2 with 50K to swap in whenever I please, however I want to swap in a tranny at the same time.

I cruised BBS-

My question-

Any EJ series trasmission will swap up to any EJ series engine correct?

I'm keeping my car FWD-

What would be the best transmission to purchase, to swap to my N/A 2.2?

Legacy? Impreza? WRX?

Any specific year?

I can virtually swap any EJ transmission right, so which should it be?

My question is not how to, my question is which one?

Is your trans AT or MT?

Subaru only made FWD transmissions until the mid-late 90's I believe. The AT or MT question will help answer your question on other EJ transmission applicability.

MT and nothin' but my man-

I wouldn't have it any other way.

So with that considered, what would be the absolute, top desired manual transmission for this '94 FWD?

97 or so seems to ring in my head as the last year they made FWD transmissions.

All the 90+ FWD MT's should work. As for what's the best one. Couldn't tell you. They are going to be pretty much the same. The newer ones may have a slightly different syncro setup, but I don't recall the 2nd gen legacies having a trans that's remarkably better than the 1st gen.

Alright, thank you.

That's more than I knew-

Figured I might as well look into it if I had options.
