97 Forester HP/Torque Specs

Post by kimokalihi »

Anybody know what the HP and Torque numbers are for the 97 JDM Forester with 2.0 DOHC Turbo engine? I looked it up on google and wikipedia came up but they only list the specs of the 2.5 engine.

I also found this thread which suggests 215 PS or 212 HP but doesn't mention Torque.

How much HP/TQ do you think I will gain with TD05-16g, STI 565cc injectors, 06 TMIC, 3" TBE and Rob Tuned EJ20G ECU running 17-19 PSI?

I would suspect that a conservative value would be what the EJ20G WRX numbers would be, as you are running the same size engine, turbo and top mount. plus about 10 for the tune.
Yes I have too many Subarus

I'm not running the same size turbo though. It's a TD04 stock. I'm also not running the same size injectors.

It's gotta be a lot more than 10 over stock with this setup.

Depending on the cams they put in the Forester, there is no reason not to expect close to the same numbers as Rob and others with 'real' EJ20Gs.

~280-300 crank HP and 250ish wheel HP is reasonable to expect. Likely higher.

That's about what I was hoping for. Sweet. But it would be cool to know the stock numbers too.

I don't know if we have ever seen the stock numbers posted, as they are always for the WRX or STI.

Since my other project involves a Forester, I'll put in my .02.

From the EJ-series Wikipedia LINK (under the EJ20G listing) it shows the '97-98 JDM Forester as 250 PS (PS is roughly equal to HP). I have a chart I downloaded from HERE, that uses 240 PS for the WRX (autos only?) and 280 for the STi versions.

I 'think' the '97-98 Foresters rec'd only the TD04 and 440cc injectors- same as lower WRX rating; the WRX STi had the 480cc and the TD05-16G.

HERE is another cool WRX/STi history LINK.

FYI: True or not?? The numbers from JDM cars are higher due to better/higher-octane fuel, from what I've read online.

Thanks wtdash. I don't think wikipedia is too reliable.
These engines were automatic transmission only in Japan
This statement is obviously false as my forester motor came with a manual trans.
