Main Harness swap

Post by __TT__ »

SO. I've been thinking. Since the revtronix chip is out, what issues would you see in swapping an entire wrx main harness into our cars? I would go ahead and just swap the guage cluster and do some dash work to forgo some issues I see there. There just seems to be more options as far as a gradual build this way.

I would say it's a pretty monumental task, but I'm sure it's doable. The main caution I would say is that the WRX has additional sensors and components integrated into the ECU and engine wiring. I believe the WRX has a fuel temp sensor, our cars do not and would require some additional wiring. ECU location & ABS may be another question. You then ride the line of how much am I going to integrate from one harness into another harness, and what components are critical to the ECU's functionality.

Like I said, it's probably doable, but there may be some issues.

I think Devon (livestrong14) may have swapped ina WRX dash/gauge cluster. Not sure if he's using the WRX ECU or not, but he may be someone to talk to about his experience.

hmm. so as far as extra sensors aside from the fuel temp (should be easy). what would I be looking at? would a DOHC swap be prudent in this situation?

Honestly, I don't know off the top of my head. I'd have to look at the WRX ECU I-O to see exactly what its looking for and what other components its integrated with.

i would think that you would want to go with a whole swap. arent the cam and crank triggers different because they're newer?
