Rebuilding questions
I am slowly putting my engine back together after finding a busted piston and then the 'spun' sleeve. I am using the block from my other build with my crank and rods. I am cleaning the pistons to see which ones I want to use. I have a industrial parts washer for Cummins parts so everything will 'sparkle', I was wondering if I should just buy a new oil and water pump. They seem good but since I'm inside now should I change them and what's the difference between the ej22t and ej22 with regards to engine parts. I know pistons, and some gaskets are different. Lastly what is the conversion gasket set I keep seeing?
Thanks for all the help I hope to be back on the road by Christmas.

Re: Rebuilding questions
I've reused my oil pump on the ej22t. If everything looks good with the rotors when you took it apart, I'd probably re-use. How many miles are on the water pump? I usuaully replace thme every other timing belt, around 120,000 miles.
As for the difference between ej22 & ej22t. Pistons & I believe rings are different. heads are different, cams are different. Rods & crank are the same. Oil pump is also different.
I think those are the big items.

Re: Rebuilding questions
Water pump probably has the 190k the car did. Off the other block the water pump spins nice with good resistance, the block it came from has cylinders that look like it isn't even over 50k. Oil pump seems good. I will be changing the belt though.
Conversion gaskets?

Re: Rebuilding questions
Not sure what "conversion" gaskets you're referring to. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Re: Rebuilding questions
It looks like just a gasket kit. It's not a complete kit, at least from the pictures it shows. I don't see anything special about it. I've got some pictures of all the stuff that comes with the Subaru rebuild kit. It's the pictures near the bottom of the page.

Re: Rebuilding questions
Awesome thanks. I ordered a gasket set from direct import. Rings off ebay. Cleaning up pistons to see which one to use. Does it matter front to back or just right and left for pistons?

Re: Rebuilding questions
Yes it does. The pistons will be marked whether they are left or right, with an L or R, and will have an arrow pointing to the front of the engine. This ensures the pistons wrist pin offset is correct. Here's some pics

Re: Rebuilding questions
I know left and right and the arrows point forward but does it matter which one is in front and which is in back

Re: Rebuilding questions

Re: Rebuilding questions
the ej22t oil pump is going to have a higher spring pressure in the releif valve spring. This is necessary due to the use of the oil squirters in the turbo motor.

Re: Rebuilding questions
The info I have shows them to be different part #'s. The updated part # for the turbo oil pump is 15010AA300
The non-turbo part #'s seem kind of screwey when I type them into the parts book...not sure what's up with them.
