Connecting rod question/??

Post by RckyMtnLegacy »

I am finally putting my car back together. I will have lots of pics soon (hope to have a build journal too). My question is what is the difference between these two rods:

The one one right is from my 1993 turbo sedan auto. block with a spun sleeve, has a 2 on the shaft and on the side ATNTN45 is etched
The left one is from a block I bought from a sports import yard which had a bent rod but block checked out great. Has a 65- on the shaft and AHUHU44 etched in it.
Just curious thanks.

I'd guess that your one on the left is from an EJ25x motor. You'd need the matching crank for it to work. The n/a rods can take some abuse but aren't nearly as strong as Turbo rods, especially ej257 ones.

The block from the yard is a an ej22t also though. I was just seeing if there was a difference because of the markings

They should be the same. I believe the etchings are just a way to make sure the end caps and rods are matched up properly if separated.

BTW, the rods on the turbo and non-turbo are identical....same part #.
