Low Comp 20g head impressions

Post by subytech »

Ok so I pulled out my motor to fix some oil leaks and to install my custom clocked and ported td04, and what do ya know the motor ended up with early "low compression" 20g heads on it by the time it went back togeather lol. If your following my other thread in the intake section you'll know I've got some oil consumption issues but I think thats my own fault for not replacing my valve seals (anyone know were to get those early valve cover gaskets here to the states? :-/ ) Anyway doing a little bit of reserch before the motor went in I found more negative predictions about having such a low comp ratio than good. But I decided to go ahead anyway just to see whats what. First off let me say that porting the exhaust housing on the td04 means i'm at full boost(10psi) by 2100rpm and theres vertually NO lag even with a FMIC if you roll on after 2100rpm. That being said I am extreamly happy with the power and response of this combo. I wouldn't say I'm making any more peek power but it pulls through redline hard now. You can deffinatly tell theres a huge benifit in flow vs the stock heads. Off boost power is nothing to worry about, havn't had to change my driving style at all and I normally drive between 1600-2000 rpm if I'm just trying to get from A to B, and I've even got a light weight flywheel. I would deffinatly recomed this combo for a good low buck project if you want a fun car with a nice powerband. I'm planing on doing some auto-x this summer if I get time between my upcoming wedding and the red Kawasaki in the garage. I'll try and post some updates when that happens.

There's a thread floating around where someone had all the part #'s for the valve cover gaksets. I don't know the link at the momont. But utimately, you'll likely have to order it from one of the overseas Subaru dealers that ships to the US.
