Push Button Start

Post by 92 Rally »

Just curious if anyone has done this and if so how did you go about it? The ignition switch in our Legacy race car is taking a crap and I want to wire this in before it pukes all together. If anything, point me in the direction of a good wiring diagram and I can figure it out from there.

Haven't done it, but it should be fairly simple, I don't know exactly what you're trying to do with it. I believe you'd just be wiring a positive lead to the button, then from the button to the starter, then leave the ignition and use the key for that or wire in a switch there. Don't quote me on that though.

I know how to do it, just was not sure on the wires behind there with no wiring diagram. Thanks for the link!

I am interested to see others switch setups and how they broke it down. I will have two switches for this plus a hidden safety switch.

I have a second, push button, switch installed under hood on my wife's '90, as the ignition switch sometimes does a "clicks, but no crank". I went from the battery, thru the switch to the start terminal on the solenoid. She just leaves the key in run, pops the hood and pushes the button.

I'm planning to install a relay underhood to do the same thing using the ignition/start switch as the trigger, but to apply full hot 12V to the solenoid. Hoping that will take care of the no start issue for good.
