Hi,
More info:
Engine: legacy sedan 1995
Body: legacy outback 1997
If it would work, I'd love to have the extra room.
Thanks,
Lauren

Physically and electrically, everything bolts and connects up perfect. I had an occasional check engine light after my swap (98 motor into a 96), however, due to different emissions equipment.

But she's talking about a SOHC engine that may be OBDI into a DOHC engine bay that is OBDII. I don't know how easy it would be to get that to work electrically. Good news is that, yes, it will physically go in there easily.

Good point about the OBD-I and -II. Good chance the 95 is an OBD-II, but not a certainty. I've seen 20+ 95's with OBD-II and 2 with OBD-I in the junkyard. The Dohc ecu runs an EJ22 just fine, as well as the other way around. After swapping the motor, I ran the EJ25d on the EJ22 ecu for a couple of weeks till a car with the correct ecu came along in the junkyard.evolutionmovement wrote:But she's talking about a SOHC engine that may be OBDI into a DOHC engine bay that is OBDII. Only thing I noticed is the EJ22 ecu took a little while to "learn" the new motor (about 15 minutes of running richly while driving) while the EJ25D ecu ran the motor perfectly from the get go.

Yeah, I think the OBDI was held over longer on Imprezas also, but there doesn't seem to be a clear cut model year differentiation, which I find kind of odd since that's kind of a big change. Good to know the ECU doesn't care.
