ECU scan tool problem?

Post by Tommio RS »

Hi thar everyone!

So i made this ECU scan tool wire and ripped the disk, and i cant make it work!

I ask this really REALLY dumb question now.... the OBD port on a 93 leggy turbo is the kinda orange colored connector "same as the radio" one. Under the drive side dash area.

I know i made the cable perfect. I dunno if the cpu im using was the "right" parallel port.

One more question. Is there something more to it then just plugging in the cable? Like sticking in the test connectors or plugging in a ground or something? OR could there to 2 exact looking OBD like ports and im just using the incorrect one?

Run down of how things work.
Plug in connector to the "OBD" port
Turn on CPU set to boot the CD drive 1st
Software loads without any problems
Hit any key
Select the 378 port
Sits there forever doing noting.....

Help??

Is the engine running? If not, that's your problem. At the very least the key needs to be in the "ON" position for the ECU to be getting power and switched on. It will feed values to the program in this state, but they won't really be too helpful.

Yes the key is on at the time off all of this. Car still has same problem. Tried with a mega long cable to a old P2 computer and still emitted the same problems.

Is the car running? I'd suggest getting the engine running if it's not.

If the cable is good and you have the correct plug, there's a chance that Vikash's ECU has an issue with that specific ECU. I've heard of a few specific years having issues.

What version are you running, 0.06? If so, try version 0.05 and see if that works.

Hmmm Ill try with the car running. Tho i failed to mention that i DO i have a piggy back ecu in the car. Its set to do NOTHING! and even the wires that it spliced into are not even close to the ecu OBD wires.

It could also be the laptop's parallel port which is the issue. A few years I brought home a few 'old' P3 laptops from work and only 1 out of 3 worked with Vikash's program. This is why I eventually switched to EvoScan + usb cable ... which also happens to work with RevScan. Ya know, modern features like data logging, custom parameters, program config, etc ;)

Thats very true BSOD2600 about the compy. Im using a HP NC8000 which was new as of 2003. I really now only use it for the FIC tuning and stuffs.

Im thinking the compy is just too new... ooo well.
