alternator compatibility

what years of alternators can you mix to work with out old cars?

pretty much any ej one fits. the only diffrence is with the wirring/electrical plug into the alt. there is square and round. iirc they changed it in the mid 90's

so what would i have to do to make say a wrx alternator fit? cut the old plug off for the new one?

if you serach there is some threads on it. basically removing the turn on lead when switching to the 2 wire plug
