Talking about the tail lights or that aesthetic piece that runs across the tail gate? The tail lights may be OEM over in japan but I'm not sure. I know you can remove the amber colored turn signal lenses from the tail lights by baking them at 150 degrees for about 10 mins to melt the glue that holds the lens on and use pliers to rip out the amber lens. I did it on my wagon and it's pretty easy to do. Just keep an eye on the tail lights while they're in the oven because they warp easily and my oven only went down to 200 degrees and my first set got warped and I had to get a new set at the junkyard.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
Yes you do or as Steve mentioned a heat gun would probably do the trick although it would be easier I think in the oven. More even heating and less chance of user error.
The sedan ones do not require any heating. I did a write-up on the simple procedure of the sedan lens removal a while back.
