help with ej22t swap!!!

Post by kdshroyer »

Ill try to keep this short. Ohh and yes I have been searching and researching for over a year. I have stacks of information printed out.

Laying on my mechanics floor right now from a 92 legacy wagon auto is an ej22t, all wiring harnesses, brakes, crossmember, suspension, and many other pieces. I also have purchased full exhaust, td04, uppipe/downpipe.

My impreza is still up and running. the next step obviously is to gut mine and get to work. But this wiring dilemma is really worrying me. My mechanic is great and very capable of this but hes busy and tries to work on everybodys cars throughout the week and what not. And i know he doesnt enjoy electrical.

So I need advice from bbs community

Which wiring route should I go? Is there someone in WA that could help me with the wiring for a reasonable price? Is there somebody that has the harnesses merged already? If i had to i could find a way to save up money and send it to iwire services and have the harnesses merged for $700

Please, any advice helps.

i don't know very much about the impreza wiring but i can't imagine it being very different than the gen 1 legacys. I did all the wiring with my swap and it wasn't nearly as bad as i first imagined it. Where in WA are you located?

I retract my previous statement, i was looking in one of my subaru books and it looks like the ecu pinouts are a lot different. I've thought about doing a similar swap in the future so i'm looking into it. Basically it looks like you could just pull the wire pins out of their connectors and switch them around to match the ej22t ecu which isn't hard as long as you keep everything organized and labeled. Then you would need to add in the 3 turbo specific sensor wiring. I'm gonna find a impreza ecu pinout and i'll get back to you.

Yeah I am in Yakima WA.

I have all the paperwork. pinouts diagrams, you name it. the best resource is this... http://www.rs25.com/forums/f105/t105404 ... l-faq.html

Yeah it looks like its just going to be splicing and merging under the dash no matter what option. It will be a bit of a nightmare but I think there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Your Impreza should have the EJ18 to be OBD1, correct? The EJ22's were OBD2 from what I've read.

I know this has been done before, and that link you reference on RS25 looks to be good. There should be others, too.

I know of a user - Zephyr - on NASIOC that does/did harness merges. I do NOT know if (s)he deals w/the older stuff. The guy I know - morrocco88 - used him to do a WRX harness merge into his '97 Legacy GT - sent the harness out and it came back labeled and ready to go....only $250.
