04 STI Injectors

Post by FrmRgz2Rchz »

If I'm not mistaken, these are side-fed. So doesn't that mean they will work with our cars?

I'm kind of confused by the whole injector interchangeability thing... I seem to remember reading that 90-91 Legacy injectors won't fit on 92-94 cars, and vice versa. They're definitely all side-feed, so apparently there are other differences between injectors? Whatever those differences are, they may also cause trouble when trying to fit GD-chassis STi injectors.

vrg3, you can make a 92-94 injector fit a 90-91 if you get the corresponding fuel rails. So basically, if you wanna interchange injectors, you hafta do rails with em... Josh has 92-94 injectors and rails on his car, that's what he just got finished doing...

Yeah, I remember reading Josh's post... I looked through his pictures and the only difference I could see between the old and new rails was the angle the injectors sat at. Josh, could you fill us in on other differences? It can't be just the angle... on a lot of cars the injectors aren't even fixed in a particular orientation.

Are 91 turbo injectors different from 92-94 turbo injectors? I recall my turbo's injectors actually sitting angled, like in Josh's original rail.

So that may indicate that you need to swap in GD STi fuel rails to use GD STi injectors. The intake manifold on the STi is significantly different from the manifold on BC/BF Legacies... I wonder if the rails will swap over.

the sti's are 550's. as soon as I get a chance. I'll see if they fit.
I have tried supra side feed and they were physically the wrong shape.
but I am preety sure they will work.

Like mentioned....they key to getting the injectors to fit was the rails.

The only outer visual cue to the difference in rails between the 90-91's & the 92-94's are that the 90-91's are angled. (I'm speaking solely about the autos right now....just because I don't have experience with them...even though they are probably similar or stuff has been superceeded with a common setup)

The main difference in the rails is the insides where and how the injector seats. The 92-94 injector only has two O-rings. The 90-91 pintle ones has like 3 O-rings and some plastic seats and junk.

It's possible that the new sti injector are similar to the 92-94 injectors and would fit in the rails. I'm not sure if the sti rails would fit on our manifolds.
