I'm trying to determine if my tranny is leaking at all. I can't figure out were the leak looks like it is coming from, but it is definately from the rear half of the transmission. Nothing in front of the crossmembers is wet at all. Just from the crossmembers back. The guy I bought it from had the tranmission rebuilt. I figure this could be leftover residue from when they rebuilt the thing.
So what areas of the Tranny in that area have been prone to leak? Has anyone had manual tranny leak problems?
Were do manual tranny's leak most?

I've got a wet residue on mine, sounds like the same area as you. I think its coming from the speedo cable hole, as that looks damp as well. But I haven't gone and wiped it to see for sure.

Interesting, so the cable needs to be tightened down then? Are our cables just a scew down cable?

I would probably do good to replace O-rings on the sensors, like the speedo cable as mentioned, the back-up switch, etc. etc. If your back half is moist, it could likely be the transmission's rear seal. That should be pretty easy, just pull the driveshaft out of the back of it, and the seal should be in plain view...
No I haven't actually tried to clean it off to see if it comes back. I was just gettinga feel for what may be causing it if it was. Just getting a feel for what I'm looking at. I do plan to do some more investigating into it though.Have you tried cleaning it off and see if it comes back? There may be nothing leaking at all.
