Engine Trouble Please Help

Post by 91ORWagon »

I have a 91 Legacy n/a wagon, 5 speed with 172,000 miles. Recently I was driving across the mountains and noticed less power on the climb. Since then she has been running below 1000 RPM at idle, and drives sluggish until I get above 2500 RPM. I suspect low compression or a slipping timing belt. Any suggestions? Thanks.

did your CEL (Check Engine Light) come on? This really could be alot of different things, but if there is a code that will certainly help pin point the problem. Let me know if you don't know how to check/read the codes.

I did the black connectors and got code 35 (purge canister solenoid). I haven't ran through the green connectors. I'm doing a comp test tomorrow. I'm beginning to think rings, Cylinder 3's plug was really fouled with oil.
Thanks.

There was no compression in #3 (wet and dry). It was a broken valve. I bought a used head, got it in, need to figure out some timing and then old Peggy will be ready to roll.
