Overheating, heater blows cool.

Post by 91ORWagon »

Hey guys,
So I just replaced the passenger side head because of a blown valve. Then when I put coolant in I discovered that there was a leak entering the combustion chamber (white smoke out the back, no coolant in the oil) The new head-gasket I put in must have gotten scoured as we were trying to shimmy it in around the intake manifold. To fix that problem I bought gasket sealant ran it through and stopped the leak.

But now can't drive around the block once without overheating. And my heater blows cool air. The sealant must have caused blockage in the system.

Thermostat is good.

I'm going to disconnect the heater core hoses and purge it out with a hose.

Any thoughts you guys might have I would love to hear.

Yeah that stuff tends to clog the heater core so purging it should help, if it doesn't work you may need to replace it, until then you could bypass it to get around.

Did you remove the bleeder screw on the passenger side of the radiator? You may have a trapped air pocket.

Also, just an FYI, that coolant stop leak stuff is probably not going to be a permenant fix, and you may have issues again in the future.

Yeah we made sure that the air was bled out. Purging the core fixed it.
And yes, I am aware that I could face problems down the road. But I'm moving away for college need her to be running until I get some money/time for a proper fix.

Thanks.

One of my buddies used that stuff on his blazer and it lasted for like 6 months but it leaves so much junk in the engine so when you do have it all back apart, i would clean any coolant passage ways you can get to.
