oil leak problem

Post by Mt.HOODrat »

hey guys,

just noticed faint smoke smelling of oil coming from my hood scoop. only at a stop, in small amounts. popped the hood and noticed the passenger side valve cover was oily as hell. it seemed to be coming from the valve cover seam as well as the nipple/hose on the top of the valve cover towards the front of the car. a pcv hose i assume? why would oil be coming out of the nipple? anyone had this problem? should i just replace the VC gaskets and go from there? it just seemed odd that oil could be on the TOP of the valve cover, if it was the gasket going i figured it would just be on the underside of the valve cover. any input?

I would suggest cleaning the motor first at a local car wash with some degreaser. Then drive the car for a little bit to help confirm where the oil is coming from.

The valve cover gaskets and grommets probably should be replaced, but it'd be good to confirm it.

That's a good idea, Ill do that. It's dripping right on the exhaust manifold and burning off

it seems the oil is coming from the two pcv hoses on either end of the valve cover, im going to order two new hoses and clamps and see if that fixes it. should there even be that much oil that enters the pcv system?

If you truly have that much oil coming from the PCV hoses, then you likely have a malfunctioning PCV valve or possibly a restriction some where in the PCV hoses.
