HELP PLEASE

Post by Potter »

Hello everybody,

So I had a problem today I was driving down the highway and I look down at the cluster and my check engine light is on, I look below that cel and the temp gauge is barried into H. I got to a gas station half a mile away and we pull over and stop. Steam starts coming out from under the hood and I'm loosing coolant out of the car. I ended up putting some water in it and it comes gushing out of the block down by the oil filter and the exhaust manifold. I believe it is just the rubber line from the block to the coolant tube that runs infront of the block over to the head. I am taking a guess here with what i believe it is but I would like to hear what you guys think it could be. My jackass friend had to go straight to water pump but I'm hoping that it isn't that. So please let me know what you guys think it is or I will just tell you guys tomorrow.

Thanks everybody,
Potter

Does your car have the stock oil cooler? If so I could see it possibly being that, otherwise, there really isn't any exposed coolant lines on the passenger side of the block. You should be able to put the car on jack stands and see where the water is coming out.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like an oil cooler hose. The oil cooler is mounted right above the oil filter. It uses engine coolant to cool the oil. It has two nipples on it. One goes via short hose to a nipple on the block and the other goes via a short hose to a pipe that runs across the front of the engine over towards the water pump.

Sounds like one of the hoses burst. For the time being, you can just cap off the now-exposed fittings with 1/2" coolant bypass caps from any auto parts store.

So it was the like from the oil cooler, little 2 inch rubber line. So I fixed it and put coolant in and it still started getting hot but not up in the 3 dash lines at the end of the gauge. My buddy said he thinks I got bubbles in the system.

Yeah, it can take a little while to get all the bubbles out. It can help to run the engine with the cap off the coolant filler tank for a little bit, squeezing the radiator hoses from time to time to help push the bubbles out.
