The car I just sold to a friend 2 days ago spit out a timing belt idler pulley today. He's looked around a bit and tells me it's non-interference. I've always thought that all dual cam subi engines are interference. I know the search function exists, but honestly I'm too frustrated to do that right now. Can anyone give me a definitive answer before I have to find out the hard way?

I can't say for sure whether the EJ20G is interference or not, but hopefully someone can chime in.

I know you asked for a definitive answer, and this isn't one, but -- from what I recall, they are valve-valve interference but not valve-piston interference. And yes, I believe this is true of all DOHC EJ engines -- even if the valves can't hit the pistons, they can hit each other. That's a less severe kind of interference, though, so the engine is more likely to survive a broken timing belt than one that's also valve-piston interference.
