built 2.2T, need some tuning advise

Post by 2.2TLegacy »

This has been a long project in the making (about 4 years) but my buddy and I have finally *completed* our build of our joint investment 1993 Legacy SS.

Started with the stock ej22t motor w/closed deck.

Here is where it sits now:
Bored and stroked to 2.4L
ej20 heads
Weisco forged internals
2007 sti vf-39 turbo
Sti 550cc injectors
2004 WRX intercooler (only one that fits without modification to the firewall)
Full 3" custom stainless steel exhaust
5sp transmission from a 1996 STI (Japan spec, crated from Subaru in Japan)

2004 WRX seats (front and rear)
Eibach prokit suspension for a 2004 wrx

It has been about 12,000 miles since the motor was built so break in period should be wrapping up. Currently I am boosting about 12psi (no tune, piggy back or standalone) and I am thinking its time that we unleash what this setup is capable of.

It is going to be a DD so keep that in mind, just want to hear what you guys might suggest as far as engine management goes.

Thanks!

awesome! welcome and congrats on a sweet engine. any pics of the car?

its the '06-07 wrx intercooler that fits without mods to the firewall isnt it?

as to engine management, you will hear about the Rob Tune... but others on here will know alot more about tuning these than i do.

Thanks!

Its been a fun build, pretty different than my Volkswagen. Body is in rough shape but i'll snap some pictures for you guys here hopefully later today.

I've been looking at the Perfect Power 6 module but i'm not really sure about how that works.

Welcome to the BBS.

What are you currently using for engine management? I'm running a stand alone, and while it can net you pretty good gains and controlability, it certainly is not cheap. The purchasing of the ECU and installation is the cheap part, the tuning and on-going tweaking if you make changes is what gets to be rather expensive.

I didn't have the best results with the perfect power 6. Others have, so you'll have to make up your mind on that.

Personally, I'd suggest the Robtune option. Had the Robtune been available when I decided to go stand alone, I would have chosen the Robtune. It may not give you some of the functionality the stand alone does, but it's going to be much easier and cheaper in the long run.

Stock '93 ECU. Piggyback is the direction I want to go, essentially looking for something to control fuel, timing and boost.
