Well, I finally got tired of the minivan-style steering wheel in my 91 turbo. So I decided it was time for a serious upgrade. I needed a smaller more pricise wheel with more hand support closer to the 9 and 3 o'clock spirited driving style. So I settled for a Nardi airbagless 97 Impreza STi wheel. Needles to say the difference is astounding. I love it, I recommend upgrading the wheel to anyone.

I just have a cheap drilled-spoke Grant wheel in the same style, but it does make a huge difference. I think mine is a 330mm.

I think its 3/4 of an inch smaller in diameter. it may sound like little, but when you sit in the car and hold, it feels and looks much smaller I bought this one locally for 150 cdn

Let's be honest, the three main things you touch in your car (whilst driving...) are the seat, the wheel and the shifter. Spend a bit of cash on the right bits and it makes a WORLD of difference. I have a Momo wheel and shifter and the standard turbo seat - it's good enough for the age of the car and the time I spend driving.
Word of warning - don't go too small on the wheel diameter... When I was a lot younger and impressionable I bought a small wheel for my Mini. Not wanting to be a complete idiot, I went about two sizes up from the smallest in the shop. It felt fine whilst trying it in the shop but when I put it on the car it suddenly became quite difficult to steer at low speeds. Also if you sneezed you changed lanes It was 12" in old money (about 300mm). 14" (about 350mm) is generally a decent balance.
The shift knob change is nice too. I personally don't like the rubbery stock one. I got a 1.5" round wood cabinet knob from Home Depot for like a buck and drilled a 3/8" hole on the flat bottom. I used the threads on the shaft to thread it and painted the knob with several coats. Looks like one of those $50 custom ones, but the main thing is the better feel to the transmission.

You people are picky! I am thoroughly pleased with the Turbo shifter setup I have on my car. The shift knob feels so good in my hand, I really don't know why you people change them...

I agree, the turbo leather shift knob is a work of art, after comparing it to many cars, personally like it even more then the sti I'd never change it unless it got worn, then get another Legacy turbo knob The shift boot is another story though...

They're not just ugly. They also completely mask your feel of the transmission by absorbing everything. If you don't know what I mean, take 5 minutes to remove your boot and then go for a drive. You'll see.
That's the big advantage of a leather shifter boot in my opinion -- the feel.

I loved my Leather turbo shift knob until I wore a hole in the leather . I then pulled the leather off and used the plastic stock one underneath and it had sticky glue crap that would never come completely off.
I now have an aluminum Momo Subaru euro edition knob and love it better then the old leather one.
I hate the stock shift boot, it's soooo fugly. I hope to replace it soon.
Edit spelling: I have an aluminum Momo, not an aliminum one

I just got a generic one for $12.99 on eBay. Then I took a stock rubber boot, cut off everything except the bottom two rows, and stitched and stapled the leather boot on.
Plug: I'm gonna be posting a stock boot up in the Parts Shed very soon. :)

I don't have any pics but maybe this weekend I can get some when I go to visit a friend with a digital camera.
It looks pretty good. I did it pretty quickly... if I had taken more time to do it carefully, it would look great. In retrospect I should have stitched the whole thing instead of using staples.

I got the JDM STI V5 steering wheel (airbag) shift knob and ebrake. Their are the momo ones with momo center emblem, black leather, and red stitching...I really dig them, and they look good with my STI black mats with sti pink embroidery. Hopefully I can get some pics...
I dig the RA steering wheel, I want to get one for the turbo....
