Ebay Stereo question
Does anyone know anything about these models listed here?
I just think it looks like a sweet deck for a good deal. Wondering if anyone has had experience with this seller or cd player... Lemons?
BTW... speaking of the 6 disc in dash for legacies...

Yeah, like ciper says, the harness connector is different, so you'll have to do something about that. These people have their facts wrong; they say "93-04 Legacy" but they really mean "95-04 Legacy" if they're talking about the US market. If these aren't USDM units then there may or may not be issues with radio frequencies. The sticker claims FCC compliance, though, so they're probably USDM.
I think the Scosche part numbers you'd want are SU02 (to connect to your factory wiring) and SU03R (to connect to the new stereo).

Thanks for the info guys.
I realize that I'd have to get the wiring clips.
I was hoping maybe someone around here had purchased one of these from this fella before. It seems he has been selling them for a while.
I'm more concerned about getting ripped off
or buying a piece of junk
than I am about installing it.

Oh.
Well, if he's selling what he appears to be advertising, then you're getting an OEM Subaru stereo, with the same quality as any other... If you want to see it in person maybe you could ask your dealer if he has part number 86201AE40A lying around. It's always possible that the stereo may have internal damage or whatnot, though, I guess...
He says the "suggested industry price" is over a thousand dollars, which isn't true; list price for that part number is around $650.
Maybe you should see if you'd be protected by PayPal's Buyer Protection Policy, or if this seller would be willing to use escrow.

Ha ha ha. I've pondered the same thing about these stereos - they've been around for a while. Now it's a moot point due to the movement of manufacturing overseas (my plant closed down to go to Malaysia).

Well, I decided to be the guniea pig on this one.
I Bought the deck and recieved it within a couple days.
That was the easy part.
I'm now off to a junkyard to hack the stereo wiring clip out of a 95 impreza. I had to choose this route (hope it works) because for all my searching I can't find anyone who actually sells the scoche clip I need (su03r), and the subaru dealers can't sell me a factory clip because it is worked in as part of the whole instrument panel wiring harness. (I could get it but it'd be three hundred-something dollars.)
The good news is that Opie was correct about that deck being the exact same one that is in the new Baja Turbos. I peeked in one the other day at the dealer. At least I know I got the real thing and not a POS imitation.

Well, you might be able to use the power antenna/remote turn on wire. It depends on whether the stereo turns it on in all modes or only in radio mode.
If it only does it in radio mode, I'm afraid you'll just have to tap the accessory line and have your amp/sub powered whenever the car's running.

Hey Ciper, Poke fun all you want. I expect and deserve it. Like I said before, I do everything the hardest way possible and never quite right.
I went to the U-Pull yard and got the harness for free! The Impreza had already had the dash ripped out and the stereo was just sitting there, so I didn't even need to use a screwdriver.
I also found a 91 legacy there and picked up a window switch I was missing, some much needed washer fluid nozzles, and a spare moonroof switch assembly for my project I recently spoke about.
All for free! The guy just told me to come back and buy something bigger next time. Woo HOO!

Is it the right direction though? If you cut the dash harness from an older impreza you get a male and female WRX style connector and one "car side" older style connector. To hook up the new radio you would need a "radio side" old style car connector and a "car side" WRX style connector.
Its funny, I did the same thing yesterday (found an old impreza with the radio out and took the harnes)
