Still getting a knock sensor code.

Post by maria24017 »

I just replaced my knock sensor for the second time and it is still coding. I cleared the ecu without any luck. Why hasn't replacing it worked?

I would suggest checking the resistance of the wire between the connector in the engine bay and the ECU plug. That will tell you whether it's a wiring issue or not.

Do you just cut out the plug and splice the wire in between the knock sensor and harness? Or replace the harness with microphone wire?
Sorry, I always have trouble picturing things like this in my head.

Searching found THIS POST...scroll half-way down and also check out the link to Legacy777's fix in that same post.

Thank you. When I searched I didn't even find that thread.

My father "tried" to test it, only to realize he has no idea how to use the old tester he has.. With many different knobs and functions... Loosing the plastic sensor plug in the process (don't know what to do about that). So now the sensor isn't even plugged up.. It is running the same as when it WAS plugged up, so there is obviously something wrong.

I will have to dig around the basement within the next couple days to see if I can find the more simple multimeter that we have.

Or I might just go ahead and replace the wire. I already picked up a cable at radio shack. Just have to figure something out for that plug

Which plug, the one on the chassis side of the harness?

Yes. The plug is off the side that comes out of the fire wall. Not the knock sensor itself

Well you can try and find the plastic piece...or maybe someone has one. Or buy another weather tight connector to replace it, and you'd have to modify/replace the connector on the knock sensor.

I would be a little hesitant to do that since the wire is very thin and can be damaged easily.
