Is the center driveshaft on all 5mt legacies interchangeable? I would guess that the impreza's is shorter, but with part is?
If it's the rear section that is different between the two, then i'll have a LOT broader base to find the front half that i need.

There are quite a few different lengths of driveshaft. Also the center joint type has changed and the mounting for the center bearing.
I saw what looked like three length of rear half and two of front. Some have three u-joints while others have u-joints on either end and a CV joint in the middle. The center bearing mount can have rubber bushings integrated or none (rubber on the car).
My suggestion is to take you driveshaft with you or measure from the front to middle and rear to middle. It would suck to get a driveshaft with the same overall length but the center bearing wont work! The u-joint and CV joint types are interchangeable and the rear flange and transmission splines are all the same.
