CRAP! Overfilled my 5MT, 1/4" past F hole... safe to drive?
How bad is this to drive? I need to get a siphon pump I suppose, I don't want to drain all this Extra-S just because I missed the damn mark. I seriously f*cking hate filling transmissions; I always seem to have this problem. I never seem to be able to stop and check in the correct interval when filling; I hadn't gotten close enough to the halfway mark on my container (horrible visual indication on this damn container) and it was taking forever to fill... and all of a damn sudden the next time I check it's overfilled! So frustrating.
What kind of siphon pump or tool do I need to go buy to fix this correctly? Any tricks or any advice here would be quite welcome... I finally got around to getting a drain plug gasket and the Extra-S and then I go and screw the whole damn job up. Grr....

Easier than you think bro... Just slowly loosen the drain plug to where it slowly leaks out and measure a qt that drains out... Don't loosen all the way to where the plug falls out

Thats not a bad idea. Can I reuse the drain plug gasket I just got from subaru? It looked like there was no gasket there before...
Thanks!

Yep, seemed to work fine. Except for the part where I loosened it just bit too much and it fell out, I got it back in before too much fluid fell out. Topped it back off and it's just above the "F" hole now. Whew! Thanks!
Hopefully this Extra-S stuff is worth the trouble and cost!!!

By the by, took a photo of the metallic shavings present on my 5MT drain plug since switching from Uncle Scotty's cocktail to just the recommended spec fluid from a parts store. Is this bad -- anything to be concerned about? Or normal expected wear? Am I shifting incorrectly in some way that is causing accelerated wear, or is this not an indication of anything other than standard Subaru 5MT wear?

That's normal, that's why the magnet there to catch the small pieces. Mine had more than that at 70k.

Re: CRAP! Overfilled my 5MT, 1/4" past F hole... safe to dr
Just had a chance to test drive the car for the first time with the Extra-S 5MT fluid in it. Wow! The tranny has never shifted so well; it feels like I'm shifting butta! I mean.. I don't feel gears, but SOMEthing's transferring power from the engine to the wheels.
Neat!
Worth the hassle and price!
Just FYI; overflow ended up in an old apple juice jug, thick plastic -- sitting overnight was enough for the Extra-S to begin dissolving the plastic! I threw this overflow away. Thought I'd share in case anyone has plans of not using an appropriate container to store any amount of this mystical gear oil.

Who's got two thumbs and believes whole-heartedly in Extra-S fluid?
....this guy.
Still amazed at the difference over standard gear oil that meets required factory specs...this stuff feels even better than Uncle Scotty's Subaru Tranny Cocktail did at first. And something tells me the individual components that comprise Extra-S will not be breaking down and losing effectiveness within the first 20,000 km like the cocktail does...

I've stored xtra-s in plastic milk carton jugs without any issues. Not sure why it ate the apple juice container.
