Broke down, weird issue with startup, help asap plz

Post by alexandermf »

Well driving down the road tonight I was in second gear coming up a hill and all a sudden slow power loss(like gas pedal in but no power) then it died completely without being able to get it started right backup my buddies and I rolled it into a parking lot right down the hill.

Immediately I checked all my silicon and vac lines and everything seemed fine. I even loosened and retightened hoping that would solve it.

Upon trying to start the car it takes a couple seconds of cranking then it starts, then sputters and immediately dies. I even try to push the gas to try and keep it alive and it does nothing. Soooo I'm getting spark, fuel and air to get it to start, but then I'm guessing either the spark or fuel pressure is lost? Only other thing I can think of is my knock sensor went bad two nights ago and we replaced it with a used one+cleaned the surface and it seemed to help tremendously(but at the same time I was still experiencing weird hesitation at most times in all boost levels)

93 tleg with a manual swap recently(the swap itself has been fine the last couple weeks).

I've got a stock airbox to snorkel to td04 with tmic.

Its dark and Sunday night so can't do much about it now. I'm supposed to be taking this thing on a big trip tomorrow so I'm trying to fix it asap in the morning. I haven't done spark plugs in a little under a year, haven't done the plugs ever, and the walboro 255 was installed about a year ago. Brand new yellow top battery as well. New alternator.

anything you have to offer as suggestions ill take to thought as I tear through it in the morning.

I've just never experienced being able to start it and not be able to push the gas pedal in to at least try and keep it alive

True story there! I don't have a pressure tester to see if I'm getting enough fuel...any other way to diagnose the fuel pump in a hurry/short notice?

Maf sensor? Mine did that and wouldn't start up, I unplugged it and drove it home where I had a spare.

Seriously rally? Like you could start it then it'd die, then you unplug and were able to get it home? I never thought of the maf but my car seriously like eats mafs, ive gone through 3 since I've owned the car. Usually just starts leaning out on me and wanting to die. Chris will be there with his tleggy so we can swap parts easily to check if its that!

Well its all good!my gut was right about me thinking it was a hose... It was my hose coming off my tmic to my bpv... Never fully tightened it down after changing the knock sensor, popped off in full boost. Couldnt see it at night but could in the morning! Thanks for all the quick replies :)
