High Performance Cams

Post by evolutionmovement »

Anyone have any idea on high performance cams for the turbo? What would they cost? Would they work with roller rockers and how much would rollers cost?

I don't know of anyone who is specifically making cams for the EJ22. But one of the cam makers like Web or Crower would probably be willing to do a custom grind for you, it would just run a little more expensvie than an off the shelf Subby cam.

The other thing is that everyone that I have talked to about built Ej22's is using either EJ20 or EJ25 DOHC heads. They just flow so much better that they are a better launching off point...

Matt, are you talking about the N/A heads or the Turbo heads?

I was looking for as cheaper and easier to build/service option than DOHC heads. Guess I won't bother with cams, but what about the roller rockers? What model(s) did they come from? I would assume I'd need the cams to match. I could maybe locate them in a junkyard. I know ciper mentioned them.

The 95 2.2's I believe had them. You shouldn't need new cams. You may need the lifters for the roller rockers, as they may be a different height to keep the same lift as the non-roller rockers. You'll have to do some research.

I am talking about the turbo heads, but I have also never seen cams specifically for an NA EJ22. There was a long discussion in NASIOC NA forum last month that some of our members participated in about the EJ22 heads. The base question was whether or not you could put Cobb cams in an NA EJ22. You might search it out if you want to know more...

I didn't realize people were actually using ej20 heads. I've heard it discussed though.

If you have a WRX then its easy.
If you have other engine management and matching intake its easy.

Dont think you can just bolt up heads and reuse everything else on the engine.
