I'm getting my xmas present installed tomorrow and was curious if anyone has one and had negitive side effects after the install was completed?
Oh it's going to be nice to let the car warm up in the mornings without me in it freezing...
And a cool car in the summer I suppose.

Leave it out of gear if it's a manual.
I remember my friend had a remote start on her Si a couple years ago. Another friend drove the car and left it in gear. When she tried to start it, then car jumped over the concrete curb. lol!

QuickDrive's two cars are 4EATS, but yeah -- remote starters can be dangerous in 5-speeds. You could wire it not to work unless the transmission is in neutral, but ... I don't like the idea of parking out of gear.

You should really wire into the neutral safety switch. So the remote starter will not work unless in neutral. Shouldn't be very hard to do.

Vrg3 is right, I have an auto.
My girlfriend has a manual however, and there are safety mechanisms in place up the wazoo.
To initialize the starter, she has to be in the car, running, in neutral. Pull the hand brake lever twice in a row, remove the key (car still running) get out and lock the doors (keyless entry) then shut the door and shut the car off with the remote.
If she opens the door before starting it with the remote, then she has to redo the sequence again.

So what's the point of the remote starter? I can go into my car right now, put it in neutral, start it, lock it, then use my extra key to unlock it when I wqant to get back in. At that point you're already cold anyway, so you might as well stay there.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
Read quickdrives post again, it says to initialize, and thats the key word. You do that stuff when you know that you want to remote start it the next time you drive it. for example you would do that whole process the night before so in the morning it will "know" that the car is in neutral. I used to install these things for almost 10 years and just recently got out of it. As far as manuals having neutral safety switches they dont. Unless I can be proven wrong but there isn't a need for one on a manual trans. The only thing that must really be bypassed on a manual trans car is the clutch switch. Most cars wont start unless the clutch is depressed. I had a system installed in my civic and I made a contraption comprised of two mercury switches mounted on the shifter under the boot. so if the lever was in any possition besides neutral it would not start. It was 100% effective from what I could tell but I never parked the car in gear anyway.evolutionmovement wrote:So what's the point of the remote starter? Well, I just got back from the installers,
It's installed, and they didn't mess any of my interior up either.
This thing has a feature that if it's really cold out, -15 celcius, I can set the car to start and run for 8 minutes, and 2.5 hours later if the interior of the car is still -15 it will start and run again.
Tres cool.
