95 legacy L 2.2 swap into a 99 legacy L 30th anniversary 2.2
I have a 99 30th anniversary legacy L, 5 speed, with a 2.2 that blow,,,, I also have a 95 legacy L, auto trans, 2.2 (that's different from 99) with bad auto trans. I want to put the 95 2.2 into the 99 car but saw the wiring was a little different, mainly plugs and such. Will this swap work??? I do not have all the parts from the 99 due to motor was taking out before I bought it, but I do having wiring, heads, n few other odd n end stuff. Both cars are OBD 2, same bodys, Im just a little lost at the moment from what I have read, and searched over the enet.

Hi, WTDash replied to your other post.
You didn't say what was broken on your '99 engine. Between the 99 and 90-98 ej22s, the only thing really interchangeable is the short block. So if you wanted to build up the 95 short block with your 99 heads, intake manifold, sensors, timing belt, cam sprockets, etc etc everything, then you could do so. Otherwise the 95 ej22 isn't of use.
Another thing you could do is grab a 99-05 or so ej25 SOHC engine and slap your intake manifold, sensors and timing gear for some easy HP.

The 99 engine was removed before I bought it, it came with heads, motor wiring harness, starter, radiator n fans, oil pan, few brackets, no block, no manifolds. This wasnt a issue cause I thought I could drop my 95 2.2 in with no problems. Im afraid heads may be no good due to motor was ran without oil and blew.

Just find another 99-01 ej22 and run that, then.

Ok I took and swapped main wiring harness under dash, so i could use my 95 ej2.2 and ecu. No biggie sence they r both wagons and L models everything plugged together. Now I need to know is what wires to use for transmission. I am going from a automatic to a 5 speed, I'v seen 3 plugs on the 5 speed. Just need to know where and to put them too. And guess every1 is wondering why I didnt just put the 5 speed in the 95 model and it because its in fair condition with 260k, and interior if fair, the car has few issues. The 99 looks and smells like new with 95k, it was well taking care of.
