Wonderful! Great! More problems! :roll:

A very irritating and loathsome sound began emanating from under my hood today, depending on the use of the clutch pedal... So I had my friend push the pedal in and out while I took a peek under the hood...

It's much worse than I had hoped. The clutch fork is wobbling inside the bellhousing!!! :evil: :evil: :x :x :cry: :cry:

So guess what I have to do now? That's right! I have to do my very first transmission drop and put the fork back on the TOB correctly... Won't cost me any money (I hope :() but it's very inconvenient!!!

So I'm going to bug my grandparents for my Christmas money early so I can get Ginger back up and running again, so Patti can go back in the hole...

I'm still gonna keep the car, don't worry about that guys! But boy this car LOVES to test my patience! :(

I had to do the same, w/ gparents, parents, and others so i could fix my transmission (still waiting on parts). Feels kinda shitty, i also asked for bday money early (dec 30 is my bday, woo for #21 :D)

Aw, man!

So the terrible sounds and feel that you thought were the cable are actually the fork?

I believe there are 2 little clips that hold the clutch fork to the release bearing... Yours must have come loose or broken I guess. If they've broken, be sure to find the pieces because you don't want them just rolling around in there. You might want to replace them even if they look okay, just because you won't want to go back in there. They should only be a few bucks each for new ones.

It's also possible that the fork is not properly seated on its pivot.

In the meantime, do you want to try that hack job hill-holder bypass thing on Ginger that I suggested to you in a PM? I can find the parts that I have. Let me know.

Vikash, yeah, the cable is probably a-okay. I looked in the Haynes, and it appears that there are two very junky-looking clips that hold the fork onto the TOB...

What I think happened: I'm pretty sure the orig. clutch was replaced with a new OEM one, back in the summer of 02... when all the TSB's for clutch shudder were going around :x... I can make the clutch shudder very bad if I try, and I have on accident a couple times, so I theorize that the shuddering probably shook the fork loose...

And I should be able to get Ginger a new HH valve for about $80 (for Christmas :D) so I don't need the bypass, I tried to reply to your PM, but my wonderful 56k connection froze as I tried to send it :x ... Thanks anyway though...

I remember when my brother and I were converting his Supra to a 5-speed... the clips Toyota used to hold the fork to the bearing were ridiculously weak-looking. We elected to cut grooves into the fork and bearing housing and fasten it with wire instead.

I guess it makes sense that shuddering could eventually pop one of those clips off.

That's cool about the new hill holder valve. A much better solution. :)

The transmission came out today, I really shouldn't have done it the way I did, I simply put a block of wood on my floor jack and lowered it out by myself after a few jerks. I almost dropped the whole thing twice, and now I'm gonna have lots of fun getting it back in, I will definitely need someone else's assistance... :oops:

But nonetheless, the fork was in no way, shape, or form attached to the throwout bearing, and quite frankly, I'm surprised I drove it into the garage like that. I couldn't even FIND the clips, I have no idea where they went. It wouldn't surprise me if this is one more thing the people that did my clutch screwed up.

I replaced it with all OEM new parts, new bearing, new fork, new clips, new pivot ball and spring, and a new dust boot. We'll see how good that works.

Well, barring any trouble getting the tranny back up on the engine, sounds like you've got things working again. Keep us posted once you're had a chance to drive her. :D
