Can't find tac signal

Post by GizMo22t »

I need to find the Tachometer signal for the insterment cluster. I am installing a remote starter for my 93 wagon and i can't find the damn tac signal. Please any help would be very apreciated. I pulled the insterment cluster out of the car and the wire I thought was the tac signal reads 9.2 volts at idle and as the RPM's go up the volts go down. Is this the right wire? I was sure as the RPM's go up the volts should go up as well. Please help.

The tachometer signal is not a voltage which varies with RPM. It's a square wave; the frequency is proportional to RPM. A simple voltmeter connected to the signal will exhibited undefined behavior.

You can tap the tachometer signal at the ECU side. Pin 16 of B56: http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/ecupins/

Thanks but now I have an even bigger problem. After I reinstaled the Gauge cluster I drove it to the supermarket and on my way I noticed the temp gauge was all the way up. Not just to the line but it was burried. the car wasn't over heating but the temp said it was. I have no clue how to fix this problem.

Vrg3: Thanks for that web site i'm sure that will help me out a whole lot in the future.

Maybe you have the temp gauge wire pinched somewhere so it's shorted to the chassis or to ground? The white one with the green stripe, I think.

I'll check the wires again but now it's doing it with the fuel gauge.
