pleaswe do, how close to getting to someone's specs were you?

What do you mean? Do you mean how close to the manufacture's speaker specs for volume and such, or do you mean how close to a customers specs for length width and depth?

Which are basically the same thing, in most cases, you tell me what your using for subs and give me 2 dimentions like width and height and I'll tell you what the depth will be.

yeah customer, so would you be able to do something like one speaker in each side behind the wheel well? Sort of like this but without the amp rack in the bottom?

Look under 1987 subaru album

P.S. how many rolls of tape did it take to make that trunk panel?

I'm sorry if I sound like an arogant bastard, I cant help being me

Get an 80 or 120 watt underseat panasic sub and be done. If your pointis for personal listening and not showing off then it is more than adequate. I have to turn the gain all the way down and bass -1 on the stock WRX deck to get balanced sound with the 120.

In a wrx where I installed the 80 watt unit the gain is about 1/4 (still very low) and it sounds good.

I think some of you need to realize that flat frequency response is the goal, not infinite bass and treble with peaky highs and low mids.

Jesus mike, you dont mess around!! That looks awesome. Just to be sure you were talking about that particular setup looking like poop not about having two behind the wheel wells yes?

SQ is the name of my game so I'd have to look at the specs on the lil booklet but how much would something of that calibur cost with two 12's? and estimate about 30 for shipping?

well, it did look like ass and it is WRONG! Never point subs at each other. One 12" in the corner would sound 10 times better than two tens canceling each other out. As far as specs go they are important but I follow some basic rules of thumb for volume depending on what your looking for. I dont want to give away all my trade secrets though

As far as price goes the stuff isn't cheap and it doesn't come quick either. I have a real job now so I limit that stuff to the weekends only. Anything with fiberglass like that is automatically in the 500 dollar range. it goes up from there depending on if you want to actually paint the glass like the ones in my pic or if you carpet the fiberglass it doesn't need the full treatment. Basic wood boxes in any shape are much cheaper and come unfinished (no carpet or anything) Around 200 ish.

That box for the subi took me over a month of 40 hour weeks.....

I thought you could point speakers towards each other if you reversed the polarity of one of them.

umm not exactly, you are sort of right but distance between the speakers is the key. 4 feet of trunk space is not a good distance. I think you may be thinking of an isobaric "push pull" setup where the subs face each other.

The angle doesn't matter. it would just be "less" cancelation. The bottom line is this. if you are looking for sq dont do subs facing each other. period. Also for sq you dont need any more than 2 ten inch subs.

So where are the best places to run wires?

I'm going to start installing the amp today. I figure I can just run the Remote Power wire and RCA cables from the stereo over to one of the doors and then tuck it under the carpet as I run it back to the trunk, but where should I pass the Power wire through the firewall? Is there an easy spot?

I would run the power wire down the left side and the rca's down the right side. Keep them seperate at all costs. You should be able to find a spot on the driver's side to get throughgt the firewall. I havent done my subi yet so I cant tell you where for now. it is ok to run the turn on lead with the rca's just as a side note. Start at the front and leave the excess rca slack under the rear seat.

i cant remember where i read it but someone was saying that you dont HAVE to run power and signal on opposite sides. I've tried it both ways and haven't noticed any difference but ymmv

Thanks guys, but I already figured it out.

You want to run the power wire and RCA's down different sides because you could get signal noise if they're too close to each other. Nothing like a little whine from your speakers that coincides with your RPM :-)

Anyway, I found the little grommet underneath the brake pedal. I drilled a hole in it and ran the amp wire through there, works great!

Man, this was the easiest amp install I've ever done. Took me like, 30 minutes total!

Well there is some truth to this....If you run the signal and power wires together you will get noise. However, the noise is primarily in the upper frequency spectrum. So if you are running a sub amp ONLY you may not hear any noise but I can assure you its there.

Speaking of front speakers (no pun intended), When I finally do something to my doors for speakers I'll be sure to have a mold so I can sell them to all of you

If you think you cant fit speakers in a subaru door wait till I post some pics of the pods I made for my GL. I had an 8" a 4" and a tweeter. Yes I said 8" in the front door lol  Actually I had that setup in all the doors, front and back. It was the demo car for my business. I need to upload all the photos but it takes a while so I dont feel like it lol

Yep. You'll never see a professional installer run the power and signal wires on the same side to an amp that'll be powering the speakers.
