Clearing out a diamond LS 90-91 grill is hard
Even with a coping saw (many size blades), dremel (40 or so attachments), vice grips and many size dikes It took me a good 2 hours to clean up only one side.
Ill post images when I can, now Im trying to figure out what to fill it with for rock/bird protection and not look rice.

Yeah, a loose wire mesh with black BBQ paint sounds like the way to go. If you don't like the twisted-together portions of chicken wire, just get some steel wire (or even cable), lay it flat in the arrangement you want, and solder/braze/weld each joint.

I like the hexagonal hole alloy sheet McMaster-Carr carries. Has a large percentage of open area, too, but I can't remember the percentage now. Should look more OEM than other choices.

I forgot about gutter guard. I used the black plastic stuff for my hollowed out tooth grille on my '84. You'll need a few extra mounting points to keep it taught, but it works well. A whole roll is like $5.
