Is the stock radio the same in a '93 and a '97?

Post by syphon »

I know someone who wants to buy my stock radio+cd player from my '93 Legacy Turbo and put it in their '97 Legacy GT. Would it fit? are the interiors vastly different?

They are different but it should physically fit. I believe the 97 center console has a double DIN space and your stock stereo with CD player is 1.5-DIN, so your friend will have to get a pocket or something to fill in the extra half DIN space. Assuming he has a single-DIN stereo at the moment he'll also lose the little storage pocket that's already there.

The electrical connections are different. The GT's connections are like this:

And your car's are like this:

It might; I'm not sure. But then you'd only be left with a half DIN opening.
