Search for an engine capable of high power

Post by Neversatisfied »

I have an 03 WRX. I am looking at building an engine capable of high power and able to handle alot of boost. Have done a little reading about the EJ22T and am very intrigued. I guess I am looking for some information as to what I would need to do use the EJ22T with my WRX, and where to go to source the parts I would need. Any advice, information, or help would be greatly appreciated.

I was introduced to the site by a link from Nasioc.com. I have a Greddy T67-25G and I would be using that one the EJ22T if I do go that direction. Also wondering what it would take as far as crankshafts and bore size to increase the displacement to the maximum, possibly to the point where 110 octane only would be used if necessary.

Why would you opt for an open, or semi-open deck when you could have a full closed deck? Who care's if it's older? It's the strongest block Subaru has made. Boostjunkie was pushing serious power out of a car with 211k on completely stock internals.

Neversatisfied - Buy an EJ22T, build it up in your garage, then just drop it in. The wiring is likely going to be a pain, but everything to control the engine will be going in with it (standalone ECU and such).

How much power are you looking for? I have personally seen EJ25's pushing 500hp. If you want more, I'd feel better having a closed deck under the hood.

I hope you like driving a Dogbox on the street though...

This is not necessary. All you really need to do it get a brand new EJ22T block from one of the vendors, like Axis or Flat4 that are selling them and swap everything from the WRX over to the EJ22T bottom end. You do not need to re-wire a thing. Whatever manages your WRX now can be retuned to run this.

This is the exact conversion Axis has been pushing along with some new pistons they had made to up the CR to 8. Should cost your $2000-2500 in parts, plus whatever labor you can't do yourself. And then just make sure you have replaced your WRX's injectors to handle your new boost levels you are looking for and 400CHp is right down the road...

you can still get new EJ22G shortblocks? I thought they have sold out in the US. I called up Subaru of canada a while back and apperently they only had 2 left

In the end I will be looking to make over 500 hp. I would really like to find a junk yard block and bore it out some and throw a different crank in it to make an engine with a little displacement. I will be running the AEM management system along with 800 CC injectors and will be getting a dog box. I have 2 other cars so I don't necessarily need this to be my daily driver. I do want to drive it on the street, just dont need to all the time. :D

Where are you going to get 800cc injectors for the EJ22T?

There's not much you can do to add bore displacement as the cylinder liner is not really thick enough to accomodate a meaningful overbore. As for a larger crank, keep in mind that the journal overlap will be less although it doesn't sound like you're that concerned with ultimate longevity anyway.

If he's using the WRX top end he can just use 800cc injectors for the WRX! ;)
