Knock and solenoid purge

Post by omegax »

I found the solenoid purge valve but i am still unable to locate my knock sensor. I have a 91 legacy MT fwd. Also wondering to replace these parts would the intake manifold have to come off? the solenoid seems very hard to get to.

The knock sensor is located underneath the drivers side of the intake manifold . . . the unner closest to the firewall. It should have one wire going to it. Another reference point is directly underneath the hoodscoop opening.

hahaha, I have a brand new purge sensor here on my desk...mocking me. :)

I have yet to go in there and change it. I passed smog without it even. I do need to do that, I'm just not excited about doing it.

yeah, emissions test. You don't call them smog tests? Maybe that is a California or west coast thing.

yeah you guys with your smog... hmm interesting because my car failed its emmision test and i had to get it inspected again... by a "more qualified" inspection station. It was probalby just that, and possibly oxygen sensor which i belive has over 100k on it.

haha, my car was cleaner this year than it was two years ago, even with the bad purge sensor. My mechanic said it is my "left foot." :)

i can see why you put off ont he purge valve what a pain in the ass my fingers are hurting from jaming them in between the manifold and all the hoses. just wondering... while fiddling around with that i noticed the ground from the engine block to the firewall seems quite frayed only a few strands left. I should go about and replace this right?
