2nd Gen 4EAT->5MT Swap Help
I've got a 2nd gen, 1999 Legacy that came to me with a 4EAT. I've bought everything I could possibly need for a 4EAT->5MT swap, lined up someone to help me do it on April 10th, and read the articles in the legacycentral library 10 times. My question for you guys is what is different between doing this on a 1st gen Legacy and doing this swap on a 2nd gen Legacy? Mechanically, I would assume everything is nearly the same right? Electronically, does anyone know the differences?

ACT Clutch/Pressure Plate
JUN Flywheel
Pilot Bearing
Throw-out Bearing
Driveshaft
STI Shifter assembly
Pedal assembly, (brake & clutch)

It's getting near crunch time and I still don't have a plan for the electronics. Does anyone know what more will be involved electronically on a 2nd gen Legacy than is included in the documents on legacycentral?
I know on a 1st gen Legacy, I have to work around starting without the neutral switch, cruise control, and reverse lights. I've also heard that ABS might not work. Can I work off the wiring info on legacycentral pertaining to the 1st gen Legacy or is everything going to be completely different?

Yours is an Outback? So it has the EJ25? Let me know for sure whether it's the EJ22 or EJ25 and I'll try to see if I can find some wiring information.

Alright, here we go:

From the looks of things, you may be able to just bypass all the starter inhibit stuff by connecting the blue-with-red-stripe wire from the ignition switch straight to to the red-with-yellow-stripe wire going to the starter solenoid.
And you should be able to tell the ECU that it's now in a manual car by grounding pin 81.
You'll need to connect the neutral switch from the transmission to ECU pin 82.
The reverse lights shouldn't have anything to do with the ECU or TCU; just connect the reverse switch on the MT in place of the reverse portion of the AT switch's inhibitor switch.
As for cruise control, there appears to be only one wire carrying signals between the TCU and the cruise control computer, but if 1st-generation Legacies are any indication I think that signal just tells the TCU that cruise is engaged, so it wouldn't matter. So all you'd need to do is wire the correct portion of the clutch switch (the clutch switch on cruise-equipped models actually has two switches inside it, I think) in series with the brake switch signal to the cruise computer.
I don't know what to make of the ABS diagram... it seems to say the ABS is connected to one pin of the TCU but the wire color/pin number doesn't seem to correspond. But it does appear there's a signal going between the TCU and ABS computer. I don't know what you can do about it... it might just work if you leave it disconnected, or if you leave the TCU in place and leave it connected.
