OK, here goes:
I rebuilt my EJ22 over the past few months and I finally have her back in the superbaru. I have everything connected except for one sensor. I looks like a black hockey puck the size of a quarter. It has a hole through the center for the bolt that attaches it to something. There is one wire leading to the sensor and it seems to be magnetic.
Question 1: What the hell is it?
Question 2: Where the hell does it go?
The engine turns and is getting fuel (checked the lines from the filter), spark, and air of course. I really dont know if its the timing or what, but I NEED HELP.
I am fortunate enough to work at a car dealership, so I have transportation as long as I need it, but I would really like to be driving the soob.
Finally all back together; but....

Yeah, it's the knock sensor.
Are you having trouble starting the engine? A missing or damaged knock sensor wouldn't cause failure to start.
Did you do any electrical work? Or did you just rebuild the engine? How did you verify that you're getting spark?

But yes, I am having trouble starting it. The trouble is... IT WONT. It will turn over, over and over, but that it. I dont get it. Could there be another reason? Timing? Plug Gap? Fuel pressure regulator? What could it be?

You didn't answer my question about electrical work. Did you change any of the vehicle's wiring at all?
You checked that you were getting fuel by seeing if the fuel lines at the filter were full? Did you check the return line too?
You might try listening to the injectors with a stethoscope while the engine is cranking to see if they're clicking.
Are your plugs new and correctly gapped?

If your going to pull htem out you might as well just put new ones in. They are only like a buck and a half a piece and after take them out that little mettle washer won't seal like it is sapposed to.

Well, It seems that this has been replaced once before I got the car back in '99. The washer is missing alltogether. Either way, I have it at my buddies' shop and thier working it out. I'll relay the info...
