I was wondering if anyone knew of any good programmable ECU's for our legacys? I have a 2.2L 98 Legacy L, I am trying to find a really good one because I was looking into DynoTuning my car
Any Help Would Be Excellent!

First: Try www.NASIOC.com. They have a slightly larger newer legacy crowd than we do.
Second: Try a major manufacturer. I'm sure that a TEC3 system could be adapted for use without much trouble. Find a competent installer to do the installation, and enjoy.
Just note, you won't be pulling any power out of the EJ22 that you won't be able to handle with the stock ECU. An aftermarket Fuel controller would probably suffice, and without the hefty $3k+ pricetag. If you are looking to go FI on the EJ22, good luck. I've heard nothing but bad things about Turbo-EJ22's.
Yea, but would it be worth it to fully wire one engine, spend $150 an hour tuning it, then rip out the engine, reset the ECU, swap a new engine, wire it all up, and spend another $150 an hour? I don't think it's worth the effort at all, but that's just me.
You won't get anything more than 180bhp out of an EJ22. It's a sad truth, but the EJ22 isn't a high-output motor. It's relatively weak with a very small aftermarket. 180bhp would be turned into, roughly, 200bhp with a REALLY good tune. Why spend all of the heartache to get that much power, when you could buy and swap an EJ20T for 3k including tranny from a rolled WRX, then use standalone on that and pull 260 from an Accessport or Tec3.
Yes, but if the engine is different it will have to be reprogrammed, so why waste money reproducing the tuning done with the ECU for the N/A engine when you're replacing the engine anyway?

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
You can get the Autronic with the Autotune feature. This way when you get your new motor in... all it will take is 10 minutes or so and you will have a new base map ready to roll.
Also, you might want to contact Kelley... he is in the works of developing an ECU for our cars. I don't know whether hooking it up on NA/Turbo makes a difference. You might have to switch up some sensors.
Brat - Almost all standalone engine management systems come with software with base-maps to get the car around (like to the dyno). Nothing you'd want to drive for an extended period I'd imagine.
I wish the AEM EMS would adapt to our cars. That thing has a shit-ton of features in it. Even a 5% tune variance, so ambient conditions can change 5% from the tuned condition, and it will adapt. It's cool.
thanks for mentioning me william. i appreciate that. I do have a couple of ecu models for subaru applications. the stage 1 for subaru's is 1450.00 ( which includes the ecu, wireing harness, and all of the neccesary sensors. as far as I know it is the cheapast all inclusive ecu for the subaru on the market. but don't let the price fool you. it is also the best ecu on the market with superior technology than any other ecu out there.

The autronic has a program that will go through and fine tune your maps as far as possible as the accuracy of your air-fuel measuring device. it goes through all the values and adjusts them for you at super human speed as you do a road tune. if you have a wideband set up in your car, you almost wouldn't need a dyno depending on how long you can hold higher speeds on roads near you. it does give you a limp mode map. he could go straight from an EJ22 tune to a EJ22T tune in less than a half hour.
